Green Living - How to | Part 1

Green Living - How to | Part 1

In nature there are neither rewards nor punishments; there are consequences.

- Robert Green Ingersoll

As we become more and more conscious about good things, such as eating the right food and doing the right exercise for keeping good health for ourselves, we are also slowly growing awareness about the health of our Environment and the Planet. It is heartwarming to note this change coming upon us, slowly but steadily. As we become more aware, we start to hear these buzz words such as “Green Living” and “Sustainable Lifestyle”. What do they actually mean?

Sustainable Lifestyle is about living in a way that would sustain our Environment and the Planet as long as possible, by preserving the natural resources as long as possible and as well as possible. Green Living gives us ways to get there.

We must always remember to work with the nature, rather than against it. Green Living helps us work with the nature. There are many ways to do this. Let us talk about them one by one.

First one:

  1. Reduce what goes in trash.

How do we do this? Think about everything that goes into trash. Glass bottles, plastic bottles, plastic containers, plastic bags, paper, vegetable and fruit scraps, leftover food, electronic things, batteries, medicine, etc. etc.

    • Take the time to read Instructions / Labels on anything you buy. Most definitely there will be instructions as to how to dispose the product, whether you can recycle, e-cycle, and how, or if you must trash it.
    • In many counties, there is a place for “Composting” now. Basic rule of thumb is: If you can eat it, you can compost it. Separate all kinds of food waste so that you can compost it. You can also compost at home with composting bins or backyard composters. {more on composting later)
    • We already know the spiel for Recycle.
    • Reduce the use of Plastic. I said “Reduce” because it is very difficult to live without it, at least in the beginning. Slowly get rid of Plastic.

If you can just start doing the above, you will see a great amount of reduction of what goes in you trash!
